AC83 F4F Wildcat (1:285)

Add to Wish List

This pack contains two F4F Wildcat fighters.

The Wildcat was the main US fighter in service with the US Navy and Marine Corps at the start of the Second World War. The Buffalo was still in service but rapidly proved obsolete and while the Wildcat initially struggled against the manoeuvrability and speed of the Zero it's rugged design and self sealing fuel tanks at least gave it a fighting chance. As American pilots learned to get the most out of their aircraft and the Wildcat was upgraded it proved to be more than a match against Japanese aircraft achieving a combat loss ratio of 6.9:1.

The Wildcat had a top speed of 331 mph and a combat range of 845 miles. It was used by the US Navy, US Marine Corps, French Navy and the Royal Navy (as the Martlet).

The Wildcat was also employed as a fighter bomber as the Americans took to the offensive later in the war.
