(1:2400) GEN6 CA Prinz Eugen

This pack contains one armoured cruiser, the Prinz Eugen.

The Prinz Eugen was the third ship in the Hipper Class; named after Prince Eugene of Savoy, an Austrian General who fought alongside Marlborough during the War of the Spanish Succession.

Prinz Eugen operated with the Bismarck during the ill-fated breakout attempt in 1941. After the destruction of the Hood she broke away to raid merchant shipping but was forced back to port due to engine trouble. Bismarck meanwhile was sunk by the combined efforts of the Royal Navy, particularly its carriers, an act which signalled the end of the battleship era.

Prinz Eugen participated in the Channel Dash which greatly embarrassed British Naval and Air Power. Following a torpedo attack in Norway she was repaired in Germany and then used to provide gunnery support on the Eastern Front. Finally, she was surrendered to the Allies at the end of the war and used in the nuclear testing at Bikini Atoll surviving both blasts. Prinz Eugen was then scuttled, an ignominious end to a famous ship.
