£2.00

Details

This pack contains one FM2 Wildcat.

The Wildcat was a carrier borne fighter aircraft. When the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbour it was in the process of being provided to all American carriers replacing the Buffalo.

It was a rugged aircraft capable of taking a fair amount of damage and had self-sealing fuel tanks which increased its survivability. It was inferior to the Zero in every other way and initially struggled against it but as pilots learned to counter the Zero and get the most out of their Wildcat they started to even things up. The lessons learned from fighting the Zero were applied to the Hellcat and other US aircraft.

The Wildcat was also used by the British who called it the Martlet.
