(1:285) USA102 Douglas A-4E Skyhawk

This pack contains one Douglas A-4E Skyhawk. The Skyhawk was an American built carrier attack aircraft which saw widespread use in the 1960s and 70s. It was used to represent the agile MiGs at the US 'Top Gun' school to train US pilots in the skills of dog fighting. The Israelis made extensive use of the Skyhawk as a ground attack aircraft It was cheaper than the F4 Phantom to buy, could carry twice the payload but had a shorter range. The operational range was less important in the Middle East where Israel was closely surrounded by its opponents. In the Falklands War, Argentinian aircraft were responsible for sinking several British ships but in return, almost half of the Skyhawks were shot down by Harriers and anti-aircraft fire. The Skyhawk's flexibility as a weapons platform made it a successful aircraft.
