USA009 Northrop P-61A Black Widow, no turret (1:285)

This pack contains one Northrop P-61A Black Widow with no turret. The P-61 was the first US built dedicated night fighter. It had a long flight duration, designed to allow long patrol periods over cities. As a night fighter, it had an inauspicious start but slowly proved itself in combat. The Americans initially wanted to use the British built Mosquito instead but the entire production was already allocated to RAF units and the British were suspected by American Generals of deliberately slowing the Mosquito in trials to encourage use of the P-61. The wartime record of the P-61 was good but it was over-taken by other aircraft as the war continued.
