GEN17 BB Tirpitz (1:2400)

This pack contains a model of the Tirpitz. The sister ship to the Bismark, Tirpitz spent most of the war hiding from the Allies in Norway. She was eventually sunk by a bombing raid of Lancaster bombers equipped with the giant Tall Boy bombs.

While in Norway, the Tirpitz provided a serious threat to convoys to the Soviet Union. Several attacks were launched against her and Churchill was close to obsessed with sinking the Tirpitz.

We have our own family link to the Tirpitz, my Grandfather (George Pearce) flew in a Halifax in all three of the unsuccessful raids against the Tirpitz in 1942.
